A beginner’s guide to quilling

Hey,

This is Janani from Surprises N Smiles. Well, I’m not going to make it boring by giving a detailed explanation of quilling!!

Lots of people I find, these days have taken a fascination for paper quilling. It is because; it’s simple, easy to learn and great to work on. But with all simple things come complications; i.e. perfection.

“Practice makes a man perfect”

So, to start off with quilling you do not need complicated tools. All you would need is quilling papers, slotted tools and a good adhesive.

This is basically everything you would need to begin quilling., once you have got these you could let you're mind go crazy with creativity.

Quilling papers: You get quilling papers in different widths like 3mm, 5mm, 8mm, 10mm & 25mm. To begin off and venture into jewelry you could use either 3mm or 5mm. Pre cut paper quilled paper can be bought in any city or there are lot of online sites as well ( In the posts to follow we shall write about the different places where you could source quilling stuff, jewelry finding and beads).

Slotted tool:  Well, slotted tool is what will form the foundation for quilling.  You could quickly roll the quilled papers into tight / lose coils and then make them into different shapes as well. ( The next post on this blog shall give you an insight into to what are the different shapes you could make with lose coils.)

Good Adhesive:  You could use different kinds of glue out which these are quite popular - Fevicol, Fabric glue, Fevigum and so on... I personally use fabric glue since it dries transparent.

Apart from these simple tools you could also use other tools like combs, crimps and jhumka moulds to improve your quilling techniques ;)

This is just basic stuff any beginner might need to know to venture into quilling we at paper quilling jewellery blog are trying to make it simple to let more people learn the art of quilling. As a beginner I had no guidance and I had started quilling by cutting thin strips of a4 paper and slitting a tooth pick :D

In future posts you would see more tutorials and you feel free ask any questions regarding quilling and we would be really happy to help.

Happy quilling!! <3

Love,

A start of everything paper!!!

Hey Folks,

This is Dr M V Pratyusha writing the first post for the blog.
First of all thanks for dropping by.

If you are wondering what is this blog about. Here's an answer to that.

We are a group of like minded people who love working with paper. We make quilled jewelry to be specific. We try out new stuff. We try to add that zing in the paper jewelry that will help people to choose paper jewelry to fit their wardrobe.

People normally make a blog and then move onto social media. But we have worked it the other way!!! We started off as a group on facebook which was started in May 2012 by Trupti Pawar More and now has more than 2500 people who are part of the group who share similar thoughts.

The group is all about sharing quilled jewelry that is made by various artists and innovate the same by throwing in creative criticism and new ideas.

The sole motto of this blog will be to share, innovate and spread the joy of crafting as a whole. Here's hoping for a great journey and support from the fellow crafters!!!

In the posts to follow there will be tutorials, swap event's, contests, question and answer sessions and much more. We have 7 contributing artists to this blog including me so you can surely expect a lot of exciting stuff that will be shared.
So do become a follower of the blog and stay tuned for a exciting ride.

Lots of love and hugs
Pratyusha
